  3. Now you need to download twrp-pixel-installer-sailfish-3.0.2-0-RC1.zip to your device's root directory and then power off your Google Pixel XL.
  4. Now you need to use your USB cable to connect your device to PC.
  5. Download Twrp-pixel-installer-sailfish-3.0.2-0-RC1.zip to your PC and save the file in the same directory as the Fastboot/ADB package files you extracted on the step1.
  6. Now enter to the Fastboot / ADB mode pressing the Volume Up + Volume Down + Power till the screen showing the text. That means your on the Bootloader mode.
  7. Now head to the directory where you put Fastboot (i.e. Step 1) and then do the following; for Windows; Open Command Prompt (Shift + Right-click > Open Command Prompt). For Mac OS X also Linux, utilize the Terminal to head to the directory.
  8. Now type and execute the command below.
    fastboot boot twrp-3.0.2-0-RC1-fastboot-sailfish.img
  9. Now back to the TWRP main menu then you need to tap the Install button. And then choose the TWRP zip file.

  10. Now confirm the installation by simply swiping the Swipe to Confirm Flash option. You will see the installation will begin.

How To Root Google Pixel & Pixel XL

Here is the full instructions on how to root Google Pixel and Pixel XL phone as the Google's latest flagships. We will use the famous SuperSu rooting tool. Chainfire as the only developer of the app has made great updates to its app in order to support rooting either Google Pixel and Pixel XL.

All you need is simply flashing the SuperSU 2.78 SR2 via fastboot commands to further root your device. This new SuperSU comes with systemless root. That means you can perform some modifications through boot image only instead via system partition.

With that any users who rooted their Google Pixel and Pixel XL get superuser access without the need to change anything in system partition and able to toggle dm-verity. So in case you encounter any bootloop, you can fix that by installing the stock 'boot.img' via factory image on your device.

Preparations.

How to root Google Pixel and Pixel XL

  1. Now power off your Google Pixel or Pixel X to boot into the Bootloader Mode. Do so by pressing and holding the Volume Down + Power buttons for about 3 seconds.
  2. Now connect your device to PC with a USB cable.
  3. Now on your PC. head to the ADB and fastboot directory. Since you already installed the Minimal ADB Fastboot setup, head to the directory you installed it, then go to the folder.
  4. Now copy and paste the boot-to-root.img file to this folder.

  5. Open command window now / cmd and then type and execute this command; fastboot flashing unlock.

  6. Follow all the on-screen instruction on your Google Pixel and Pixel XL.
  7. Now execute this command; fastboot oem unlock.

  8. Your phone is now unlocked, reboot your device to the Bootloader mode for one more time then execute this command on the CMD; fastboot boot boot-to-root.img.

  9. The above action will install the boot-to-root image file on your Google Pixel or Pixel XL. The flashing processes will take several minutes. And during that your device will perform 2 times of rebooting. Therefore just wait.
  10. After your device is on again, then it has now be rooted, your device has full root access now.
