CM12 ROM for Nexus 6! [Lollipop 5.0.2]

Check Out The Video Below!

The official CyanogenMod 12 (CM12) is out for the Nexus 6! CyanogenMod ROMS are the most widely used and available custom ROM for Android and for a good reason. CyanogenMod is supported for thousands of devices and help older legacy devices still be able to update to the latest version Android even when they don't officially get an update from the manufacture.

CM12 ROM for the Nexus 6 is the very first official build that was released today! The first build includes profiles like work, home, night, etc. These profiles can be each individually changed to your preference. CM12 also includes status bar brightness control, volume to wake up device, weather in the status bar, and options to change the way the navigation keys react to input, however I haven't been able to get that feature to work!

This ROM also includes AudioFX for advanced sound setting options and also Music app. The basics like WiFi, data, Bluetooth, calling, camera, etc all work great! With all the essential parts of CM12 working great you can use this ROM as a daily driver!

How to Install Custom ROMS on Nexus 6!

Check Out The Video Below!

You just rooted your Nexus 6 and you're ready to explore a whole new world with Android by installing custom ROMS on your Nexus 6! This process may seem a little bit intimidating, but don't worry just follow the simple step-by-step guide below and you will become a custom ROM flashing expert in no time!

What Is A Custom ROM?
A custom ROM is a modified version of Android with enhancements the developer of the ROM has made to improve the device. You may have heard of CyanogenMod or Paranoid Android ROMS that pack a TON of extra features. These features can consists of many things including removed bloatware, added extra features, themes, better battery life, improved device performance, anything!

Custom ROMS also let you upgrade to the latest version of Android even if it hasn't officially been released by the OEM. If you want to always want to be on the bleeding edge of Android software then installing customs ROMS in a must!

Things To Remember:
- You need to have a rooted Nexus 6 with TWRP/CWM Recovery installed, if you don't follow this guide: how to root Nexus 6.

- This will remove all data from your phone since we will need to do a factory reset before installing a new custom ROM! Backup any important information!
- You can only install custom ROMS that are specifically for the Nexus 6!!

Let's Get Started With Installing Custom ROMS On The Nexus 6

Don't forget, you need to have a rooted Nexus 6 with TWRP or CWM Recovery installed.

In this guide we're going to be using TWRP custom Recovery, but CWM is very similar in steps.

1. Download and transfer the custom ROM to your Nexus 6.

2. If the source from where the ROM was downloaded tells you to download Gapps (Google apps like Play Store, Gmail, etc) download and transfer the Gapps to your phone too.

Both the custom ROM and Gapps will end in a .zip file format, don't unzip it!

3. Now let's enter into Recovery Mode! Power off the Nexus 6 then press and hold the power button and volume down button until you see a green "Start" screen.

4. Keep pressing the volume down until you see "Recovery mode". Now press the power button. You will now enter into TWRP or CWM Recovery.

Step 5 is optional, but highly recommended!!
5. Select "Backup", make sure that "System", "Data", and "Boot" are selected then swipe at the bottom of the screen to start the backup. This is called a "Nandroid Backup", it will backup just about everything on your Nexus 6. This backup file will be located in "/TWRP/BACKUPS" folder.

You can reboot your phone and transfer that backup file to your computer so if something goes wrong during the custom ROM flash you can select "Restore" in TWRP and all your information will be restored.

6. On the TWRP homescreen select "Wipe" and swipe at the bottom of the screen.

7. Now select "Install" and locate the custom ROM you downloaded earlier. Swipe to confirm install.

8. Repeat step 7 except do it with Gapps if your ROM required you to flash Gapps too.

9. Now select "Reboot System" and the Nexus 6 will fully boot up to the new custom ROM. This boot up can take up to 5 minutes since we wiped the Nexus 6 and installed a brand new OS on our phone!

Congrats, you now know how to install custom ROMS on the Nexus 6!

How to Disable Forced Encryption on Rooted Nexus 6!

Check Out The View Below!

The Nexus 6 is a beast of a phone, but people are reporting that they are seeing the Nexus 6 perform slow from time to time. From a little bit of digging the Android community has found that the forced encryption on Android Lollipop is the main cause.

Another issue that I have had is that many custom ROMS and Kernels for the Nexus 6 are built from unencrypted custom ROMS, meaning the Nexus 6 has to be unencrypted before we can flash a custom ROM/Kernel that is also unencrypted.

Luckily for us bbedward from XDA has created custom boot IMG for the Nexus 6 so we can disable forced encryption on the Nexus 6 without too much effort!

Follow the step-by-step guide below to disable forced encryption on a rooted Nexus 6.

Note!
- This process will remove all data from your phone, backup any important information before continuing!!
- OTA updates will enable forced encryption again.

The Nexus 6 needs to be rooted, if it isn't follow this guide first: how to root Nexus 6

1. Go into Settings > About phone. Keep note of what the build number is since we're going to need it in step 2.

2. Download the correct "boot_noforceencrypt_XXXXXX.img" depending on your build number to your phone using the download links below.

Download boot_noforceencrypt_lrx210.img (Build Number LRX210)
Download boot_noforceencrypt_lrx22c.img (Build Number LRX22C)

3. Download Flashify app from the Play Store using the download link below.

Download Flashify from Play Store

4. Open up the Flashify app and tap on "Accept" and then a Superuser request pop up will show up. Tap on "GRANT".

5. Select "Boot Image" > "Choose a file" > "File explorer" > "sdcard". Now locate the "boot_noforceencrypt_XXXXXX.img" you downloaded in step 2. If you downloaded the file directly to your phone then look under the "Download" folder.

6. Select the "boot_noforceencrypt_XXXXXX.img" and select "Yup!".

7. Now tap on "Flash more" > select the more options menu at the top right corner of the app > and select "Reboot recovery".

8. We are going to enter into Recovery mode. Since the Nexus 6 is rooted you are mostly likely going to enter into TWRP Recovery.

Select "Wipe" > "Format Data" > type "yes" > "Go".
If you get "unable to mount /data" then reboot back into Recovery and do step 8 again.

9. Tap on the home button > "Reboot" > "System". Once the Nexus 6 fully boots up your phone will be unencrypted.

If you want to confirm that the forced encryption has been disabled you can go into Settings > Security > and under "Encryption" is will say "Encrypt phone". Tap on it and it will ask you if you want to start the encryption process.

FAQ:
Q: How do I encrypt my phone again?
A: Follow the guide above again, but use this boot IMG instead of the one linked in the guide
